I agree with your opinion that Muslims sholud be able to pray at that specific cathedral because of the history aspect of it. However, you have to realize that old cultural (and religious) traditions in Europe have shaped and influenced their perspective, which is very much different from that in the U.S. Freedom of Religion and equality are such buzz words in the U.S., but they don''t have the same meaning in Europe. Most Europeans tend to be very straight forward (and a little bit stubborn) about their views. Political Correctness practically does not exist (mostly because it''s less relevant). In the U.S. people are used to having an array of different religions, where as in the majority of Europe- Christianity is the dominant religion. Therefore, anything too different is just uncommon.I remember, when I first moved here, I was shocked at how many different and unheard religions existed here. And also, how popular it was for people to regularly attend religious observances. I''m not sure about Spain, but I know that in Lithuania, most people only attend church during big religious holidays, like Christmas and Easter. Only the elderly go to church every Sunday. It seems like you are getting so much out of this experience. I am glad you think about things further than just the surface. I can''t wait for you to be back though and get to talk about all of your experiences in person!
